Coleman's Fly Shop Guiding Testimonials

Carl, I wanted to tell you how satisfied I am with our guided fly fishing experience with you. Not only did you put my son and me on so many trout and salmon, but we learned so much from you during our day-trip. I appreciate your patience and professionalism in working with my son, helping him to understand the finer details of stalking, fighting and landing monster salmon. The chrome steelhead he landed was an experience of a lifetime and something he will never forget. Thank you again and we look forward to our next trip with you!

Western New York has some of the best tributary steelhead, salmon, and brown trout fishing in the country, and some hidden trout streams. Carl Coleman and Jay Peck are two of the best fishing guides in the area. Combine the fishing with these guides and your fishing experience will be memorable. You will not only have very productive days on the water – either wading or by float trip, but this pair prides themselves in making the trip a learning experience. Be it in improving your casting, fly selection, leader building, fish fighting, or reading water, they teach it all. Furthermore, if you want to try spey or switch rods, these are your guys. I have fished with Carl and Jay for more than 10 years, and will again this year. I never doubt that I’ll catch fish, learn something new, and mostly have fun.

The incredible Brown Trout Fishing of the fall field campaign would not have been possible without the generous support of Carl Coleman  and Jay Peck. For everyone that participated, we thank  Carl and Jay for their generosity, time and positive encouragement as we lived the fishing experience of a lifetime.

REVIEW. I have been guided by Carl for 6 or 7 years and more than 20+ trips and I can honestly say that you will not find a better more knowledgeable fishing guide. Carl will go to great lengths to get you into fish and is a pleasant and fun person to spend a day with. The tackle provided is also first rate and the only thing he doesn't control is the weather. You cannot find anyone better.

The first time I went fishing with Carl Coleman I felt like my then 5 year old son must
have felt the first time he went fishing with me. I learned more that first day with Carl
than I had the prior 40 years on my own. But Carl is always gracious and encouraging;
he makes sure that you not only catch fish, but that you also have a fabulous time while
learning something in the process. I have fished with guides in other states, but none
has remotely approached Carl’s skill and good humor or his dedication to make the
day an unforgettable experience. I have been taking clients on guided fly-fishing trips
with Carl for close to 20 years and have never finished a trip less than overjoyed. One
client—who was not a fly-fisherman—was so elated, that he rushed out the next day to
buy fly-fishing gear. When clients who have not met Carl ask me what to expect I tell
them that they are about to meet the Yoda of fly fishing (only a lot taller): Carl is fly-
fishing’s Jedi master. Although I fish many days a year on my own and think I have
developed some level of proficiency, I still take clients out with Carl every year, I still
learn something every time and can say, without hesitation, that if the day I fish with Carl
is not my favorite day of the year, it’s darned close. If spending a day guided by Carl is
not on your fly-fishing bucket list, you had better revise your list today!

Hi Carl, just wanted to thank you again for a great weekend.  We all really liked learning from you and will hopefully see you again sometime.  I think you’ll sleep really good the next couple nights after re-tying about 100 flies and untangling 200 lines!!  Anyway, here is the picture you wanted because Cody wouldn’t let me go to bed tonight without sending it!!

Sincerely, Dan, Brady and Cody Rood  PA.

Review:

My friend and I have been fishing with Carl and Jay for 12+ years on the Oak Orchard, Sandy Creek, Salmon River and others. They both have an incredible knowledge of what “works” to make you have a successful fishing trip. I just fished with Jay for several days on the Salmon River last week (October 2014) . I was able to land 8 steelhead and had an equal # of break-offs/pull-outs. Jay was literally able to put me on the hot spot for the day when others were not nearly as successful. You always feel like you have learned  something new after a trip with them. Both Carl and Jay go the extra mile when guiding you. They are not watching the clock and will stay out with you as long it takes to make you successful. I have always heard that a really good guide will become a one of your best friends.
